A Tennessee Treasure

Crowning one of Nashville's tallest peaks, our telescopes have pointed toward the sky since 1953. We are surrounded by scenic Radnor Lake State Park and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Now on YouTube

This talk takes a look at the many "science fictional" faces of Mars, starting with The War of the Worlds and ending with The Expanse; discussing how the way we look at this mirror is shaped by our scientific understanding of the planet, the society doing the looking, and the layers of stories we have already told.

Now on YouTube

Throughout much of human history, there was only one moon. Now we know of at least 600 (if we're counting dwarf planet and asteroid moons). Vanderbilt's Erika Grundstrom looks at some of the most fascinating worlds in the solar system, especially ones we could consider "ocean worlds," and investigates how we know what we know.
