The first successful Astronomy on Tap event took place in Brooklyn in 2013. The concept quickly spread due to the international nature of the astronomy community and the general public’s growing interest in space exploration and discovery. AoT has expanded to cities across America and to international outposts in Denmark, India, Germany, the UK, Sweden, Canada, France, Switzerland, South Korea, and Chile.
One year ago, Nashville joined the AoT community due to the efforts of Vanderbilt University faculty and students. Each free event offers the public engaging presentations from the universe of space, engineering, and science, along with trivia, games, prizes, and music. Audience interaction and questions are welcome and encouraged.
Dyer’s director, Dr. Billy Teets, presented at the December AoT in 2023 and was invited back to celebrate the first anniversary on September 25, 2024, with a talk about the Voyager missions. Leading off the evening was Vanderbilt postdoc Dr. Lyra Cao, who discussed stellar activity.
