Festive Fall Events of October 2024

Dyer Observatory is especially gorgeous in autumn as it sits among the changing treetops. We enjoyed a wide variety of events, but here are a few favorites.

On October 2, 2024, Percy Priest Elementary held a songwriters night as a fundraiser. Appearing were Jonathan Singleton, Sasha Alex Sloan, Austin Jenckes, and Charlie Worsham. Dinner, cornhole games, a photo booth, and a live painting of the event which was offered for auction added to the fun. The evening ended with a visit to the Seyfert Telescope.

Dyer’s director, Dr. Billy Teets, gave a tour to members of this year’s Leadership Brentwood class on October 3, 2024. The program is sponsored by the Williamson County Chamber Foundation and features daylong seminars, group discussions, field trips, and retreats that address different issues affecting the Brentwood area. Topics often include history, education, business, economic development, media, entertainment, government, and quality of life. Each session creates a forum to exchange ideas and discuss areas of interest among present and future leaders.

The 2024 Bluebird on the Mountain season came to a close as concertgoers enjoyed two shows in October due to the activation of a rain date. The many talented artists who appeared on our stage this year included BOWEN * YOUNG, Jim Beavers, Barry Dean, Tony Lane, Alyssa Bonagura, Fraser Churchill, Jason Reeves, Ashley Gorley, Ben Johnson, and Jenn Schott. In the early spring, visit our Bluebird on the Mountain page. The 2025 calendar and artists will be announced along with ticketing info as information becomes available.

The Dyer team attended the Tennessee Science Teachers Association conference on October 18, 2024. Dr. Billy Teets and Alex Rockafellar met with teachers to share information about field trips, spread awareness about the monthly astro calendar, and offer live viewing of the Sun through Dyer’s solar telescope.
